Arlene Smith

Like many artists, my mother got me “hooked” on ceramics….at the ripe old age of nine! At the age of ten I made a porcelain laced draped doll, which I still have today.

In 1986 I opened my teaching studio and along with my husband ran Arlene Smiths Classy Ceramics for over 17 years. Today I focus on creating my own designs ranging from Fun and Funky to Designs from the Heart.

My true love is teaching, it allows me to share my passion, knowledge and experience in the ceramic areas. Through my many years of teaching, I have found sharing my knowledge the most rewarding. The greatest moments are to see the expression of amazement, pride and accomplishment on a student’s face when they see their finished pieces.

 I have two objectives when I teach. One is to ensure that the student is learning and the second is to make sure they have fun in the process. My favor quote is:
